Donald Trump Promises Americans $5,000

At the first-ever GOP Midterm Convention in Dallas on September 9th, U.S. President Donald Trump promised Americans $5,000 dollars, if the Republican Party is successful in the November midterm elections.

"If the Republicans win, you win with us, and you get $5,000. It will be called the Trump Dividend," he told a viewing audience of several million.

Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick later told NBC News that this dividend would not be paid for using taxpayer funds.

“Together we’re going to deliver that plan and we’re going to pay that money to the Americans, and not from taxpayer money."

It remains unclear how the dividend would be funded, with some, like Vice President J.D. Vance, suggesting that it could come from tariff revenue, and others saying that it will never happen.

Will Trump's promise of Oprah-like charity be enough to tip the midterm scales in his favor? That remains to be seen.
